The Most Brilliant Failure – A Film Tribute to Gérald Genta’s Ingenieur

April, 2025

To mark the revival of Gérald Genta’s 1976 Ingenieur SL, IWC Schaffhausen premiered a cinematic short film, The Most Brilliant Failure. The film retraces the story of this bold, integrated-bracelet watch—once overlooked, now celebrated—and its place in Genta’s legacy.

The project was developed with the support of Evelyne and Alexia Genta and the Gérald Genta Heritage Association, reaffirming the lasting impact of one of watchmaking’s most influential designers.

Gérald Genta first sketched the Oursin – French for sea urchin – after a family vacation in Corsica.

The Revival of the Credor Locomotive

In 2024, to celebrate its 50th anniversary, Credor reissued the Credor Locomotive—a bold, angular design Gérald Genta created in 1979 for the Japanese brand under Seiko. The reedition was developed in collaboration with the Gérald Genta Heritage Association and honours both Genta’s deep admiration for Japan and the watch’s historical importance.

“He loved it. It was the only one, outside his own brand, that he named.”

Revival of the Gérald Genta Brand by LVMH

May, 2023

In 2023, under the leadership of Jean Arnault and with the blessing and guidance of Evelyne Genta, LVMH announced the revival of the Gérald Genta brand as a standalone haute horlogerie maison. Drawing from Genta’s extensive archive of visionary sketches and complications, the relaunch is not a nostalgic re-edition, but a bold continuation of his spirit—reimagining what Genta would be creating today.

With manufacturing at La Fabrique du Temps and former Genta collaborators like Enrico Barbasini and Michel Navas involved, the revival represents a poignant homecoming and a powerful step toward cementing the enduring legacy of one of watchmaking’s greatest minds.

FRED, Palais de Tokyo

Autumn 2022

On the occasion of the brand’s 85th birthday, the renowned jeweller FRED organised a 650m2 exhibition in Paris, taking its visitors on a look back in time at the history of the French Maison.

It is known to few, but Gérald Genta collaborated on many occasions with FRED in the 1980s, designing exceptional watches for the brand.

FRED asked for the Association’s participation in the exhibition and even dedicated an entire section to the successful partnership. A letter signed by Mrs. Genta detailing the collaboration was also put on display.

TIME DESIGN, Watches & Wonders / Pont de la Machine

Geneva, Spring 2022

During the iconic W&W fair, the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie and Watches and Culture organised an extensive exhibition entitled TIME DESIGN that offered a walk through the history of wristwatches from the 1900s to present day, and even beyond. After the fair, TIME DESIGN then moved to Pont de la Machine for the general public.

To faithfully represent the true breadth of Genta’s contribution to wristwatches, the exhibition paid tribute to the Maestro with a large chapter on his work.

Evelyne Genta and the GGHA participated in the curation of this section as well as sourcing many of the pieces on display.
